Obituary of Robert Andrew Newell

Passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, 28 October 2025 at Stratford Rotary Hospice in his 78th year.

Predeceased by parents Graham (1990) and Mary (2020), Father in law Bill Brown, Mother-in-law Floss and sister-in-law Annette (2024).

Rob is survived by wife Kay, son Aaron (Abbie) of Farnham, England, brother Gerry of Duncan BC and sister Judy Riley (Jim) of St. Marys.

Loving grandfather to Max and Millie. Amazing Uncle to Erin, Jen, Carolyn, Meg and Cleo.

Rob was born in Cardiff Wales and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1957, settling in Montreal until the move to Labrador City in 1963.

He attended Memorial University in St. John’s obtaining a degree in Economics. It was here that Rob met Kay and settled in Manuels, Conception Bay South.

He was Executive Vice President of Bell Aliant Canada, a career that led him to travel globally.

Upon retirement winters were spent in Hilton Head Island and Bonita Springs, with frequent visits to catch up with friends and family around the world, from Melbourne, Australia, to Cardiff, Wales, and very often back to Newfoundland.

A final move from The Rock led him to New Hamburg.

Cremation has taken place, with interment planned for Stratford Cemetery.

There will be no funeral service or visitation. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Donations in memory of Rob may be made to Stratford Rotary Hospice. The compassion and kindness of its staff has been greatly appreciated.

Rob will be remembered by many for his humour, generosity and kindness. He is dearly missed.
