Obituary of John Stephen Hodkinson

We are devastated to announce the passing of John Stephen Hodkinson at London Health Sciences University Hospital on November 19, at the age of 53.

Beloved husband to Jessica (Iredale) of 25 years, proud father to Loghan, Ryan (Becky) and
Emma, son of Sally and Hugh Hoggarth of Tavistock, and loving brother to Chris (Julie) and Ted (Julie). He is also survived by his brother in-laws Chris and Tim (Sue), and mother in-law Jackie, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and family members. John is predeceased by his father in-law Norman Iredale (2006).

Born in Oshawa, John was raised in Stratford and Tavistock. He attended Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, graduating with two degrees, then qualifying as a GPS specialist at Sir Sanford Fleming college, before settling down in St Marys. He will be fondly remembered through his involvement in the local community, especially with hockey and soccer. The impact he made through volunteering and coaching in St. Marys will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live on for many years to come. John worked a lifetime in the agricultural community and will be missed by many friends and colleagues.

John was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone who asked, and would sacrifice anything for his family and friends. His willingness to have an honest conversation with anyone, about anything, at any time, was truly special, and will be deeply missed. Anyone who knew John knew how much he loved ridiculous, slapstick humor, and his ability to laugh at the most simple things was truly incredible. Above all, everything he said and did reflected his deep love for Jessica and their children.

Many thanks to the staff, medical and mutli-transplant teams at University Hospital, London, who have supported John since his first transplant in 2016. It was such a gift to have 10 more loving years with John. John was beyond grateful to his medical team, as well as, the donor families. We encourage you to please sign your donor card.

A celebration of life open house will take place on Saturday, November 29th from 1 - 4 pm at the RIVER VALLEY GOLF COURSE, 4725 Line 1, St. Marys. Words of Remembrance at 2:30 pm

A private family burial will take place at the St. Marys cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to a memorial fund for Loghan, Ryan and Emma’s future education. Cheques can be made out to Jessica Hodkinson.
