Obituary of Karen Louise Hughes

Karen Louise Hughes (nee Clysdale) passed away at Kingsway Lodge in St Marys on December 17th, 2025 in her 81st year.

Daughter of the late Keith B. Clysdale (1979) and Victoria “Vicki” Scarrow (1994). Beloved wife of 36 years to the late Joseph A. Hughes (2013). Predeceased by son Lee Scott Cumming (1992) and brother Alan Clysdale (1986).

Beloved mother of Chris Cumming (Catherine) of St Marys and proud grandmother of Rebecca Cumming (Blake) of Victoria BC and Will Cumming (Amrita) of Hamilton ON.

Survived by siblings Doreen Clark of St Marys and Gordon Clysdale of Warman SK.

A lifelong resident of St Marys, Karen was a telephone operator, factory worker, retail clerk, homemaker, avid gardener, Girl Guide leader and member of the local I.O.D.E.

Karen loved chocolate, laughing with friends, and sharing her tasty homebaked treats with others. She delighted in spoiling grandchildren, dogs & cats. Chuck Berry & Neil Diamond were her groove.

Karen cheered on the Blue Jays, collected interesting rocks, and cherished time with family amongst the 30,000 islands of Georgian Bay.

Karen was kind, and generous to a fault. She could be spicy, but her heart was solid gold and our lives are richer for having loved her.

As per Karen’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation. Cremation has taken place with later interment in St Marys Cemetery.

Karen’s family extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Kingsway Lodge long-term care in St Marys where Karen spent the last two years of her life and where she was cared for with kindness and dignity.
