I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Palfery. He was my grade thirteen science teacher at Mimico High School, some sixty odd years ago. Even after all this time, I have vivid recollections of a teacher passionate about science and truly dedicated to his students, being fully cognizant of that pivotal year in our education. Not only was Mr. Palfery an excellent instructor, but he connected with us on a human level, fostering an atmosphere of caring and belonging.
Having read about Mr. Palfery’s life journey beyond my brief encounter with him, I am in awe of his varied accomplishments, touching the lives of so many. Amidst the grief, a feeling of gratitude emerges for a life well lived.
My condolences to Mr. Palfery’s family. Keep warm memories close to your hearts. Remember, life is not ended, only changed.

Condolences to Ed's family on his passing.
I am glad that our paths crossed, if only for one year. During the era of declining enrollment, there were several years in a row when I was an acting librarian in a succcession of schools in Etobicoke.
Ed was my vice-principal when I was a history teacher and assistant librarian at West Humber Collegiate during the1979-80 school year.
I found Ed's classroom inspection of me and demonstrations of support for my initiatives in the library were sources of empowerment. .His demeanour was always one of respect and encouragement. For me, Ed's memory is a blessing..

My deepest condolences to Mr. Palfrey's family. He was my teacher at Mimico High School, where I attended from 1959-1963. Clearly, Mr. Palfrey lived a rich and fulfilling life. Quoting Ira Gershwin, who could ask for anything more.

Mr. Palfrey was my science teacher at MIMICO HIGH SCHOOLfor Grade 11 in 1961...WOW. I always looked forward and enjoyed his class because he was interested in us learning his subjects. Decades later, we found ourselves in the same room waiting to be picked for jury duty. At that chance meeting, he had asked where I was living at that time of my life. When I told him where, he turned to me and said "did you know that area was originally called " Mimico Heights". Noted. Last year, I attended a celebration of life in that area. As I was backing up to leave the parking lot, all I could see was the entire west end of Toronto and what I thought was OH my GOD, Mr. Palfrey!!! I now see why that area was called Mimco Heights.RIP, Mr. Palfrey

I taught Industrial Arts in Etobicoke with Ed as my VP. I always remember him as embodying the qualities of honesty, fairness, kindness even temper and consideration that should be expected in a good administrator. I can honestly say that I liked and admired him.
There is more than one way in which to be a big man. Physical stature is of less importance than character.
Sincerely
Richard Lyle Barlow
