Matthew was an amazing person we dated while I was pregnant and he treated me just the same. He kept me safe and never judged me for the troubles I was having. Much of which were the same he had. I liked Matt a lot. But I obviously had to change my life drastically when I got pregnant. He was very kind and romantic gentleman. I loved him. And wish all the best to his family.

I have many good memories with Matt. We certainly spent a lot of time together growing up. Playing sports, fishing, biking around town, etc. I think it was while fishing that he seemed to be happiest and most in his element. He particularly enjoyed a trip we went on as teenagers to the Woman river in northwestern Ontario. I am grateful to have known Matt. He had a kind heart, a strong/unique personality and spirit, and I will always remember him.

Dear Ron, Wendy and Lindsay
There is nothing to be said that can ease your grief. But please know that many of us saw your dedication, your love and your commitment to Matt and his wellness. We also believed in Matt and saw his continued struggle to be well. I've no doubt about the courage and incredible strength it took to plod forward at times, but he did. It was always a pleasure to cross paths over the years and have a short chat (even if our 'politics' differed at times haha). I loved when this happened and always left feeling hopeful for his future. I am so sad for your loss.
I love this picture of the boys and their dogs! Chauncey and Ginger I think? Happier times.
Sincere condolences to all.

Dear Ron, Wendy, Lindsay, Aaron and family,
I don’t need to tell you how close we felt to Matt, but sharing some good memories-of which there are so many, I feel help heal the heart. Remembering catching fish behind our house when we lived in the country, hockey, and even the minin Olympics he and Jarret set up in the back yard…must find the video, along with his kindness to friends and especially Frankie and Chester bring a smile. Just watched your memorial video which was so beautifully done.

It is with deep sorrow that we learned of the death of Matt, son of Ron and Wendy, our friends and very well-respected and well-loved members of our Rotary Club and Inner Wheel.
The first rule of the Rotary Four-Way Test is that in everything we do or say must be the truth.
It is true to say that Matt had many challenges and struggles in life. It is also true that Matt continued to search for peace and understanding throughout his life and he will be remembered for his resilience and the love he gave to those around him.
Matt leaves behind a family who cherished him, and friends who will hold him forever in their hearts. Matt’s spirit and the lessons he imparted to those who knew him will live on.
May Matt’s soul rest in perfect peace. Our sincere condolences to Ron, Wendy and Lindsay.

This is a memory—
not the kind you frame,
the kind you survive.
Me and Matt Aiken—
we didn’t meet on a path…
we met where the path gave up.
No signs.
No direction.
Just two people recognizing that we wanted change but didn't know what better looked like !
while being completely lost.
They say misery loves company—
nah…
misery recognizes misery.
Not healing.
Not answers.
Just… strength.
The quiet kind.
The kind that says,
“you’re still here—
so keep going.”
We didn’t save each other.
Let’s not lie about that.
But we proved something—
sometimes rock bottom
isn’t a place…
it’s a meeting point.
And sometimes
the only thing you need to survive it…
is proof
you’re not the only one there. Thank you Matt for the strength you helped in those moments, even though your not here, I'll need that strength for more moments, on days like this.
Condolences to family and friends.

Ii wish to send my heartfelt condolences to you and yours .
Matt was a friend to myself and my daughter for many years . His struggles with his addiction were many. But at the end of the dsy he was a very kind and gentle friend . To all. We had many laughs and great times when we were spending time together .
He brought smiles to us many many times over the years . His presence brought us much joy and his passing will bring us sadness. His love for fishing I admired dearly . He was a good friend and I will miss him immensely also to Ron and Wendy , he spoke often of your support as a family and as parents he knew always that you were in his corner and that everyday you tried ti understand the disease that plagued him . That is honorable . Its hard to understand that addiction is a disease . And from one parent to another I truly admire you both for your abilities as his parents to truly be there for him and to do your best to understand his struggles that came along with it. You've been great parents and role models for others to learn from . And I know that matt truly valued all of these things that came from yous as a family . I will truly miss him and his friendship as well as his "poetry " lol and witty charm. Our hearts ache for you but know his presence was truly a gift .
Lots of love from our house to yours .

My heart hurts hearing this news. Matt showed up for me in a big way a few yrs back. Someone who had once been important to me passed away and shortly after I heard the news there was a knock at the door and there was Matt. He had a family dinner from KFC in his hands to feed my kids because he said he knew I would be hurting and he wanted to take care of supper for me. He stayed with me the entire evening and didnt leave until I fell asleep. Over the yrs we had some deep conversations and his love for his family was always a part of those talks. Matt was an amazing man, I got to know him quite well during my time in Perth County, he was so intelligent and kind, and would never do anything to intentionally hurt anyone he cared for. And with that being said, the love he had for his family was something words can never explain.
