Obituary of John Joseph Haughian

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Joseph Haughian on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the age of 79. Joe was a man whose life was defined by a steady hand, a deep love for his family, and a soul that was always most at peace near the water.

Joe’s journey began in Northern Ireland before his parents, Rita and Patrick, sought new beginnings in Canada in 1957. After arriving in Port Dalhousie and eventually settling in St. Catharines, Joe grew up alongside his sisters, Rita, Patricia, and Christine. Joe moved to London, Ontario, where he began a dedicated 34 year career with the Ford Motor Company in St. Thomas. He was a loyal employee til his retirement in 2003, respected for his work ethic and the quiet reliability he brought to everything he did.

However, the true story of Joe’s life began on a dance floor. It was at a community social dance where he first met Mia, and for Joe, it was love at first sight. That single dance turned into a beautiful 55-year partnership. Together, they built a life full of laughter and a home in a community where neighbors became lifelong friends. They raised three children Maria, Joe (Maura), and Regina (Brett McGee), who saw firsthand the devotion their father had for their family.

In later years, Joe stepped into his favorite role: "Grampa." He was a cherished presence in the lives of Calley, Colton, Olivia, and Gabe, leaving them with memories of a man who was as gentle as he was strong.

Retirement finally allowed Joe to find his "dream." He and Mia moved to Ennismore, Ontario, settled into a home on the lake, and Joe truly lived his best life. He spent his days exploring the hidden corners of the Kawartha Lakes. When he wasn’t fishing, he was content to simply sit on the dock, watching the sun sparkle across the water…a quiet end to a life well-lived.

He will be deeply missed, but every time the sun hits the lake, his family will see him there.

Joe requested no funeral or service of any kind.  His body will be cremated and will remain with his family.

In lieu of flowers, people can make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
