Obituary of Mabel Marguerite Ballantyne

We are saddened to announce that Mabel Ballantyne (nee Oliver) our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother passed away peacefully at St. Marys Memorial Hospital on August 31, 2026 in her 101^st year after a brief illness.

She is survived by sons Barry (Sandy), Dale and daughter Brenda Chambers, her grandchildren Brad, Michelle (Matt) McKeen, Kevin and her great grandchildren Nathan and Natalie.  Predeceased by husband Grant (1981) son in-law Kelvin Chambers (2024), her parents Mensell and Eva, brothers George (Marie), Ernie (Bell) and sisters Mary (Charlie) Smith, Erma and Florence in infancy. Brothers-in-law Mowat (Ethel), Glen (Lena), and Murray Ballantyne.

She had a strong faith.  She attended the North Nissouri Church as a child and continued to cherish that church her entire life.  For her 100^th birthday, they planted a tree in her honor in the cemetery which she was so appreciative of.  She also attended the St. Marys Presbyterian church.

Mother had an incredible work ethic who dedicated almost 70 years of her life to the family farm, hosting family gatherings and holiday dinners.  She always said ‘never put off to tomorrow, what you can do today’.  Always thoughtful of others, communicating the old fashioned way via letters and cards.  She had an incredible penmanship even at the age of 100.  Her network of family and friends will miss her dearly.

The family would like to thank Kingsway Lodge for her care.  A special thank you to the Dr.’s and nurses at St. Marys Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during her final days. 

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held in the Community Hall at the Pyramid Recreation Centre, 317 James St S, St. Marys, on September 13, 2026 from 2 - 4 pm.
