Dear Joan,
We will always remember that you and John were one of the first of our friends to visit us at our first home (apartment) after we were married. A friendship that had formed years earlier and has lasted over the years. One of those friendships that no matter how much time between visits we could easily catch up on kids and grandkids, talk shop, share our mutual memories of growing up and laugh, always laugh!

It was a complete pleasure growing up 2 blocks from John, then knowing him as a neighbour 1 block from me for almost
my entire life. An acerbic, affable gentleman known for his very dry, but keen observations on St. Marys. When I started
St. Marys Ford, John was 'the' sought-after mechanic in Town, one of my first calls.

John greeted me at the gas stn and introduced himself to me as his neighbour when I first moved in. He always had a warm heart and helped me many times even when I didn’t ask, he just somehow knew. John and Joan became part of our family and we spent many afternoons on the porch. He will truly be missed and the words “hey big guy” will live rent free in my head with a smile and a tear. We love you, Poppa.

We appreciate the great team mate John was to Downtown Pontiac both at 201 Queen East and 449 Queen West. It was an honour for everyone that had the pleasure of working with John. The Downtown team and the West family will miss him. He had the best advice when asked how to get Downtown Pontiac going back in 1983 "sell some cars".
