My most sincere and heartfelt condolences for this very deep loss. I was blessed and honoured to work with barb for many years at the Health Unit and call her my friend for well over 30 years. Barb was a truly “shiney human being”. I loved her dearly. I’m not sure I’ve ever met such a remarkable woman. I could go on and on. My heart is very sad for her amazing family and for all of you who loved her. Sending much love out to you all xo Bonnie Baynham

Although for only a brief time, I had the honor of knowing barb. She was truly a remarkable human being. Her beauty of spirit, kindness, gentle strength and embodiment of love leaves quite a legacy to inspire. May you be at peace and your spirit dance in the sunlight among the fields of flowers, your breath carry in the breezes across mountaintops and oceans... It was a gift to know you.

Dr. Leavitt lived her life in a way that should be an example to us all. She had a special and unique talent for bringing love to the world in ways it would be most impactful. Someone told a story at her living celebration of life that will stick with me forever. She heard that the daughter of her friend had a ringette game coming up, so she made a sign featuring the names of every kid on the team, went to the game, and cheered her heart out. That, to me, is one of the greatest things I've ever heard of someone doing. It is a microcosm of how barb fiercely, unflinchingly fought to make the world better in countless ways, even for people she had never met.
I have a memory of barb that I'd like to share. A number of years ago, I went to the St. Mary's pride festival. I was very anxious because I didn't have anyone to go with, but it was very important to me that I go. When I got there and got out of my car, the very person I happened to see was barb. My nerves were instantly calmed as she pulled me in for a big hug and a warm greeting. She told me something incredibly heartwarming, brave, and deeply meaningful. She said she was on her way to a drag storytime event, and that she was going to cheer as loudly as she could. Nobody was better at using their voice to make things better than barb.
I could share dozens of stories like that, where barb picked me up and comforted me in times where I needed it the very most.
These are difficult times we live in, and it can be easy to lose hope. barb held endless hope, courage, and belief that things can be better. She is everything that I believe is great about the world, and worth fighting for. Any time any one of us feels like we're losing hope, let's remember barb. Let's remember that there are people who need our voices, our efforts, and our cheers.
I will miss her very dearly. It is a great comfort that she has shown us all how to love and live in such a great way. She will inspire me forever.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. barb was an amazing coworker and friend. I will miss her excitement and joyfulness that she was known for. But most of all I will miss her excitement, especially when she saw that I had Hershey Kisses, and turtles at my desk. I became as barb would call me "her dealer" and she at time would leave me a little note at my desk thanking me for the chocolates. barb will be dearly missed not only by me, but by every life she touched. Her Living Celebration of Live was amazing and it will be my last fondness memory of her and how she smiled the whole time, what an inspiring person is was.
Take care

Where to start? I met barb as she was a very good customer for many years at The Flower Shop. She was our first customer to send flowers six times a year to a special friend as a Christmas gift, that amazing idea took off and it became a much loved special gift that other people did too. For me, barb was "light", she always had time to ask how I was and how my daughter was, and she stopped to hear the answer and was genuinely interested. During covid she was amazing, she never let on what her job was and I cannot imagine the stress she endured, but I could always hear the smile in her voice when she would call to send some "light" to someone. When she was able to come back into the store it was like a breath of fresh air and hope. She had an impact on me that I will never forget and I will always treasure it. barb you inspired in the quietest most respectful way and I thank you so much. Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed and you will be remembered. All my love, Julie
