Obituary of Carlyle George Westman

With heavy hearts, the family of Carlyle George Westman, Lyle or Duff to many, share the news of his passing on June 18, 2025 at the age of 65.

Duff is predeceased by his grandson Arthur (2016). He is survived by his daughter, Tara McGuire (Rob Botkowski), her daughters Keira and Kenzie and their father Jason McGuire. His daughter Heather Lewis-Havard (Tyler Taylor), her children Parker and Lillyanna and their father Owen Lewis-Havard. And by his son Mathew Westman (Samantha Klingenberg) and their son Henry.

Duff also leaves behind his best friend of over fifty-five years, Brian Currah, and his wife Mary. He is fondly remembered by their children as “Nanny Duff.”

With a lifetime spent in the bush pursuing his passion for nature, Duff amassed a breadth of knowledge on all manner of plants and animals, and he would share his knowledge and many, many stories with anyone who would listen. He leaves this world with one request, that life is short, so have fun while you are here.

The family would like to thank the many friends who supported Duff in his final weeks. Dr. Jeff Hepburn, for his care and support. As well as the staff at ParaMed and VON.

Family and friends are invited to the Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home, 47 Wellington St. S. on Sunday, June22, 2025 for visiting from 1 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 2 pm.

Memorial donations can be made to the St. Marys Healthcare Foundation, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, or to a charity of choice.
