Obituary of Barry Ferguson
Barry Richard Thomas Ferguson was born January 29, 1949 in Shelburne, Ontario.
In his early years, Barry could be found somewhere along the Mad and Noisy rivers, pony by his side, fishing pole in hand. His youth in the idyllic hills of Mulmur created a sense of wanderlust in him that persisted his whole life.
He loved to travel, loved adventure, and was a lifelong learner. He worked in varied trades and disciplines, and he and his wife, Linda, lived across Canada. He loved music, beer that tasted like beer, and playing guitar.
He is predeceased by his sister, Sheila, mother Maureen and father Hilliard who, on his deathbed, described Barry as a “good boy.”
This good boy became the exceptional man known and loved by so many. He was a teacher and a true giver; one whose door was always open. He spent years of his life helping others, while asking nothing in return. Always ready for a laugh, his quick wit and sense of humor both preceded and followed him. He was a true and loyal friend.
Barry succumbed to cancer June 29th 2025, at Stratford Hospice with Linda by his side. Along with her, he is survived by his brother, Bryan, Bryan’s wife Maxine, and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is loved tremendously by the innumerous lives he touched, many who know him simply as “Uncle Barry.”
In accordance with Barry’s wishes, his memorial service will be a private family affair. In lieu of flowers, Linda requests that friends donate to the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Canada, or to the Cancer Society of Canada. To those who share Barry’s faith in his god, Jehovah, Barry asked that you remember him by sharing the Bible’s promise of a future resurrection hope found at Job 14:15, John 5:28, 29, and Revelation 21:4 with others in your community.
Uncle Barry, sleep soundly in Jehovah’s memory. When He calls you back to us, we who love you will get on our ponies and find you somewhere along the Mad and Noisy.
You bring the fishing poles. We’ll bring you a guitar and a beer.
