Aunt Jane was so gentle and kind. I remember visiting as a kid
and had a fascination that Shawn and Kim called their parents Jane
and Don. Didn’t know that would be “allowed” and now 70 years later the memory makes me chuckle.
Thinking good wishes for your family at this time.

In Memory of Aunt Jane
by Steven Graham
Around 1958, I was visiting the McArthurs at their Southwold home. I was about twelve; her son Shawn was three. Jane, ever the gracious host, set up a dartboard outside and handed me some darts—perhaps not her most risk-averse decision.
Each time I threw a dart, Shawn would run forward to inspect it. This meant I had to wait until he cleared the line of fire. I didn’t. And with the full force of negative thinking—“Don’t hit him with the dart!”—I did exactly that. Right in the back of his leg.
Blood streaming, we ran to the house. Jane calmly cleaned Shawn up, applied a bandage, and reassured me that everything was fine. No scolding, no drama. Just kindness.
That was Jane. I could impale her firstborn son with a dart, and she’d respond with patience, compassion, and grace. She made you feel safe—even when you’d just committed a minor act of warfare.

Jane was a dear family friend who I knew my entire life.
She was a kind and loving soul with a wonderful zest for life.
She had a great sense of humour, along with a devilish nature - creatively inventing challenges for all ages. I well remember her mom Altha and my Grandma Elsie participating in the challenge to walk around the house between dinner and dessert - as the younger generations we were challenged to run around.
Although we had lost contact I the last few years she was often in my thoughts. I will cherish the memories of many card games after dinner at the McArthurs or the Hunters or our place.
I know Shawn and Kim’s families will miss her gentle support and guidance. Rest in Peace Jane. Thank you for a lifetime of memories.

Jane and Don were my grandparents' friends and so became my parent's friends and also mine. I'll never forget spending time with them and then Jane for the last 40+ years. The McArthur family is and always will be family to to the McNaughton Clan. All our love at this difficult time.

Condolences to the complete family circle of Jane. I often had a chat with her when she would be playing Scrabble -with a family member- I think it was. I have missed seeing her lately , and I know she will be missed by many more. Jane was a great lady.

Jane is an incredible person, whom I loved spending time with. So many wonderful memories, times spent at the flats, in my garden, reading, painting and many hours talking. I learnt a lot from Jane.
I will miss my dear loyal beautiful friend.
