Another first for funeral homes: when donating by credit card in person, over the phone and now online, the Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home will cover the credit card processing and online fee.
We have always received memorial donations by cash or cheque. In 2012 we started to take memorial donations by credit and debit card, and since the funeral home website was launched in 2006 we took memorial donations online by credit card.
In 2016 we changed website providers. The main reason was to reduce to the online fee for memorial donations. The online fee is common with online credit card use where credit card information is encrypted for the safety of the transaction. With our old website platform the fee was 8%. The other issue was that only certain charities could be donated to by credit card. The new website platform launched in 2016 allowed donations to any charity, even charities or funds that are not set up as registered charities, such as some churches, local organizations or when funds are being raised for things like trust accounts for a person’s family or memorial awards. The fee from the new website provider was 5.9% from the encryption fee and 30 cents from the website platform. When someone donated online through the funeral home website they were informed of the fee and that the charity would receive the donation, less the online fee. Since 2016 the Hodges Funeral Home alone has forwarded just over $133,000 in memorial donations to charities.
The good news is that our website provider has now reduced the online fee to 2.9% plus 30 cents. The Hodges Funeral Home has decided to cover that fee. Why? Because we have a generous community that supports good causes and families experiencing death. Because we have a caring community that wants to stay safe. By now permanently covering these fees, we’re doing our part to keep people safe and continue to support charitable organizations.
How Memorial Donations are handled at the Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home:

we can take a credit card donation over the phone, and later forward the funds to the charity. If the charity is registered, they will mail a tax receipt. We will also record who you want the donation from in order to inform the family. The Hodges Funeral Home covers the 2% fee from the credit card machine.
we will give you the mailing address of the charity for you to directly mail a cheque. We will record who you want the donation from in order to inform the family.
Please always call ahead to the funeral home (519-284-2820) before stopping by to ensure we are available; to accommodate different schedules, we are also also available by request on evenings, weekends and holidays.
There is a secure mailbox located near the Wellington Street entrance door. Please ensure cheques are made payable to the charity and who the donation is in memory of is written on the memo line.
If you are attending a visitation or funeral, regardless of where the visitation or funeral takes place, we wcan receive memorial donations.
We can accept donations by cash, cheque, debit card and credit card. The Hodges Funeral Home will cover the 2% fee from the credit card machine.
Click on “Memorial Donation Sent in by cheque” on an obituary. Fill in your information, so that we can inform the family of your donation and then mail a cheque, made out to the charity, directly to the charity. You may also use this feature to visit the charity’s own website to donate directly.

Fill in your information and amount, and we will inform the family of your donation and then forward the funds. As of Feb. 15, 2021, the Hodges Funeral will cover the online fee for credit card donations. That means the charity will receive the full amount donated and, if the charity is registered and can produce a tax receipt, the donor will receive a tax receipt for the full amount.
