Obituary of Peter William Vossen

Peter (William) Vossen, age 64 of St. Marys, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at his home on February 14th 2023. After a hard and courageous battle with cancer his life was celebrated by forming an honour guard of golf clubs held high under a beautiful sunset as a flock of Canadian geese flew overhead in a V formation.

Peter is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara (Glousher), Father of Stepheny and Devin Vossen (Emily) and faithful watch dog Carlos. Brother of Wilhelmina Laurie (Joe), Mary Jane Elliott (Paul), Helen Brockman (Gerry), John Vossen (Cheryl), Stephen Vossen (Sharon), Kit Sheldon (Don), Chris Vossen, Paul Vossen (Cathy), David Vossen (Heather). Brother-in law Ken Cucksey. Predeceased by his parents John and Helena Vossen, and father and mother-in law Jack and Betty Glousher. Sister-in laws Brenda Cucksey, Heather Rousseau and grandnephew Gordie Merkel. Peter was dearly loved by many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in St Marys, Peter was a proud citizen of his hometown. Upon graduation he worked for Allied Farm Equipment, then moved to Elliott’s Sales and Service in the mid-eighties. Having worked in construction for his father in his teens, Peter then returned to work in construction. By 1986 he had formed a contracting partnership. In 1992 he turned that company into the family business  WHO Contracting. He was responsible for over one hundred homes in the St. Marys community and beyond.  Peter was active in the Builder’s Association and served as its President in 1998-99.  Always community minded, Peter ran for town council in 2018.

Peter and his wife Barb were avid golfers and enjoyed travelling.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hepburn, Dr. Schiedel, Dr. Thomas, Dr. Ernst, Dr. Ahmad, Community Care and the doctors and nursing staff in St. Marys, Stratford and London.

In keeping with Pete’s wishes, a Celebration of Life took place prior to his passing. Cremation has taken place with inurnment in St.Marys Cemetery.
