Obituary of Myrtle Jennings

(Mavis) Myrtle Jennings (nee Campbell) passed away on February 14, 2019 at the age of 98 at her son’s home here in St. Marys.She first of nine children, and was a spitfire of a woman who retired at the young age of 94 from Power Boat Adventure Company after about 20 years of accounting there. She was born in Jamaica, where she raised her only son, Kessley. In 1954 she moved to the Bahamas, where she became heavily involved with the Anglican Christ Church Cathedral in Nassau. Myrtle’s many years were filled with teaching and volunteering. She was once a highly sought after stenographer for Lord Beaverbrook. She spent a year in Luxembourg, where she attended a Nana Mouskouri concert. They took a photo of the audience and she was the only black person in a very crowded theater. She had no fear as she traveled Europe on her own before returning to Nassau.She was survived by son, Kessley Jennings (late Kiki Jennings), Sisters; Vie Tyndal (Lloyd Tyndal), Ina Sinclair, Doreth Spence, Grandson Karel Jennings (Jennifer Jennings). Her family would like to make a special thank you to her long-time friend Mary Wilkinson (son Lamar), who supported and comforted her while living in Nassau.We would also like to acknowledge Don, Margaret, Justine, Michelle, Penny, Raven, the staff at Jackson’s Pharmacy, and her cats Jewel and Bijou, who helped Myrtle and family in the last few months of Myrtle’s life.Cremation has taken place. A Private family interment will take place in St. Marys Cemetery at a later date.
