Richard took the time to bring attention to people that were honoured but in some ways - not known. Though just an acquaintance of his presence from time to time I had been inspired and moved by his works. My condolences to his family - he was so clearly proud of them.

It was with sad heart Ginette and I learned of the passing of Richard. I had the good fortune of serving with him in 3RCR in Germany between 1979 and 1981. Richard Holt was a fine officer,husband, father and human being who optimized the characterization of an officer and gentleman. We all in O Company were much better off as a result of his dedication to the Regiment. I will always remember Richard as a sage mentor who believed in service before self and who,from time to time privileged us with his subtle and on point humor. Rest easy Richard you have served your family, The Regiment and Canada well. To Vicki, Thomas, and Will. Please accept our sincere condolences. Some of our fondest memories are of you, Richard and the family in Germany.

Richard was my classmate (PhD) at Western. He was a fine man and a very good historian. His recent book with McGill Queens "Filling the Ranks" is an important book about Canada in WW1 and will stand the test of time. My sincere condolences to his family. Graham Broad

This is indeed sad news. I had the good fortune to work with Rick Holt while we were both serving as members of the Regular Support Staff with the Army Reserve in Toronto from 1990 to 1992. I will always remember him as a great boss, mentor, scholar, and friend. My heartfelt condolences to Victoria and all of his family. Rest easy, Rick. Chris Case

Rick was a fine officer and gentleman. I had the honour to serve with him in 1 RCR from 1985 to 1987 when he was my Operations Officer. Condolences to Victoria and their family. Regimental colleagues and friends will miss his contribution and dry sense of humour. His service before self attitude will serve as his legacy to future generations. Rest well soldier. Pro Patria.
