Obituary of Vera Ruth Symons

After a courageous fight with cancer, Vera Ruth Symons (nee Noble) of St. Marys passed away in her 73rd year with her beloved husband Bruce at her side on April 14, 2020 at the St. Marys Memorial Hospital.She will be dearly missed by her four daughters Cori (Brian Brookshaw), Cathy (Rob Pye), Erica (Daryl Brine), and Leslie. Proud and loving grandma to Brianna, Justin, Katie, Ethan, Charlie, and Jack. Sadly missed by her close friends Donna and Mike Mikita and her brother Robert Noble, his wife Gillian, and their family. Vera is also survived by her brothers-in-law John (Sharon) and Ray (Linda), and sisters-in-law Bonnie, Brenda, and Christine (David), as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother Evelyn Noble (2012) and father Bob Noble (2013).Vera was born in St. Marys and spent her entire life here, marrying Bruce 52 years ago and raising her family just a few blocks from where she herself grew up. Vera spent several years working as a Children’s Librarian at the St. Marys Public Library and often talked about how much she loved her time there. An avid reader, accomplished sewer and crocheter, and strong bridge player, Vera was also a dedicated gardener who spent hours working in her gardens.Thanks to London Health Sciences Centre Cancer Program and the Stratford Hospital for their care during Vera’s cancer treatments. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the St. Marys Memorial Hospital for their support during the last weeks, in particular Dr. Gatfield, Dr. Trevail, and Dr. Schiedel.The family will have a private service at the St. Marys Cemetery with a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date.As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the St. Marys Public Library, the St. Marys Healthcare Foundation or another charity of choice.
