Dr. Mathew McIntosh posted a condolence

To The Eedy Family: My memories of Mrs. Eedy are both treasured and appreciative. She allowed me to roam her household at all hours of the day, munching down on her famous home-made chocolate chip cookies! We had a standing invitation to play basketball; build snow forts and swim at the Eedy household. Later on in life, Mrs. Eedy gave me the summer job of weeding and cutting her grass while I folded papers for the J-A. She was a driving force for personal excellence, accomplishment and community involvement. All this was accomplished with style, dignity and grace. From a distance I read the J-A over the years looking for her column. In the latter years I was fortunate enough to exchange adult communication in which I thanked her and Mr. Eedy for being inspirations for me. From our family to yours we give our condolences. My sympathies to Lorne and Linda, and all the Eedy family members. My Mom, Marion Finnie, enjoyed playing bridge with Dorothy every week for many years with Marguerite Croswaite, Marguerite Douglas, Mary Blake and many other elegant ladies. I recall seeing Mr. and Mrs. Eedy getting into a convertible sports car and Mrs. Eedy had a beautiful silk scarf around her hair, just like a movie star would. Our families connected through Junior Choir and attending the St. Marys United Church, high school events, reading the “Journal”, and various community activities. Your family may not realize the far-reaching aura of stability and strength your parents exuded. Treasure the memories of your mother, and grandmother, who is remembered by many. Dorthy and John were friends with our Mom and Dad, Suzanne and Don. Dorthy was always good to the neighborhood kids growing up, handing out great tasting baked treats. No wonder she was so successful with her column "Eat at Out House" in the newspaper. All our sympathies.

Dorothy was indeed an exceptional lady! As new-comers to the area several years ago she reached out to my husband and I and welcomed us into the community most graciously. We enjoyed socializing together and it was one of my greatest pleasures to be included with the “ lifer friends ‘ at the monthly luncheon. Thinking of you all and sending my deepest condolences. Aunt Dorothy holds a special place in my heart. She made me feel a part of the Eedy clan when I didn't have any grandparents of my own by including me in family events that involved my "brother" Michael. She became my first pen pal when I was 8 and encouraged me to write. Michael and I had wonderful visits with her and Uncle John, taking the train by ourselves to St. Mary's and walking across the street by ourselves. We felt so grown up. She certainly encouraged us to think for ourselves and try to be independent! I will treasure those memories.
