Obituary of Marian Elsie McDonald
After a lengthy life of laughter and love Mom passed away peacefully at Kingsway Lodge, St. Marys, on June 8, 2019 at the age of 87.Born March 15, 1932 in Portage la Prairie to Ernest and Wilhelamena, she grew up in a simpler time. Learning the rewards of hard work on the farm and often riding her favorite pony to school. She moved to Callander Ontario in the 1950’s and married her beloved, the late Albert McDonald. Together they raised Bob, Dan, Dave, Rick, Doug, Tim and (finally a daughter) Laura. Living on the Wasi, Marion enjoyed working in her garden, picking berries in the bush, baking bread and making preserves to help feed her family. Her social life included Tupperware parties, “Club night” cards with her girlfriends and dancing on tables with Aunties Joy and Florence. As her children grew up, Mom took a job caring for the elderly at Casselholme in North Bay and enjoyed her years working there. After Albert passed in 2007 she moved to Burlington to be closer to her children and grand children. It was in Burlington where Mom met her second family at Brant Hills Presbyterian Church. The McDonald clan is grateful and thankful to all the people in our Mom’s life who made her smile. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kingsway Lodge in St. Marys.Marian is survived by her siblings Olive Grove, Joyce Chambers and Terry and Ken Holliday and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
