Obituary of John Michael Vella

John Michael Vella passed away at St. Marys Memorial Hospital on September 8, 2021 at the age of 71. Survived by his partner Anna Webb, children: Shauna Perger (Joe Conforti), Renee Banks (Brett) and grandchildren: Mya, Owen and Capri. Brother of Bill and his wife Brenda, Bob and his wife Bonnie, and Sue Vella. Son of the late James and Lois Vella, John was born and raised in Toronto and after high school worked for Bell as an installer. In his early 20’s, a neighbor offered John a position with Canadian International Paper (CIP) for whom he worked for many years and during this time remarried and had two daughters Shauna and Renee. John was offered a promotion and moved to London Ontario and began his career with Price Daxion which is now known as Veritiv. His next move was to Purolator and then SMS in Stratford. At this juncture of his life John began to have aspirations of having his own business and sourced a location in St Marys and with Paul White and Eldon Pfaff started Stonetown Supply Services which was incorporated in 1996 with John being President - the company is still a strong component of the St Marys business community John retired in 2017 in order to spend more time with his family and grand kids at his beloved cottage on Georgian Bay enjoying beach bonfires listening to The Hip - the Stones and AC/DC. John was an avid sports fan supporting the Maple Leafs his entire life forever hopeful at the start of each season a Stanley Cup would be achieved. The New England Patriots his pick. in every football pool and the Jays closely watched each summer. John himself was a skilled hockey player and a scratch golfer for many years until ill health made it impossible to play. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life open house will be held at the Westover Inn, 300 Thomas St, St. Marys, on Sept. 26th from noon to 3 p.m. with words of remembrance at 1:30 p.m. Those wishing to attend, please RSVP.
