To Joanne & Family
Sending my deepest condolences on the passing of Pat. It is hard to think of Lakeside, without thinking of the him. I do have some wonderful memories of Pat. My first trip to the Hut was with Pat and Fred Holden, I enjoyed my first milkshake and onion rings with them. Pat was a friendly guy to my kids, gifting them money to go to the Lakeside store. Pat will be missed by many.

Dale Dingwall posted a condolence

Dale and Heather Dingwall: We are so deeply saddened by the news of Pat. He will always be my friend who protected me from bullies on and off the ice, slept out in the tent trailer with Bill and I right up to Christmas, best boot hockey player west of Toronto to the border, helped tow my car out of 4 feet of snow down a ravine and never allowed me to feel sad in the way only Pat could do. Pat was a one of a kind true friend in life. To most he would be the nice guy behind the mask of mean grumpy Pat Pickering but I want people to know Pat Pickering went way, way beyond being just a nice guy to me. Pat was my friend but he was my older brother Bill's best friend. Pat was his best friend before and after Bill's aneurysm left him disabled and withdrawn. Bill drove all his friends away eventually but only Pat would not accept it. In typical Pat Pickering style he would literally walk into our house saying "Annie May I am taking Bill and don't think you can stop me. Then he would pick Bill up and carry him over his shoulder to his bright ford green, white topped Chevy and plop him in the front seat. All the time telling Bill to stop his arguing and saying "we are getting out and doing something". If he was taking Bill to the Burger Hut on hwy#19 Pat usually would shout back at me "well are you coming or not little Dinger". I never refused him because it was never boring being out with Pat and maybe it was because he would buy me a burger with ketchup and an orange pop which was his favorite too. I was usually not asked to the big boy things like the horse track or whatever other shenanigans those two got up to. Bill always had a silly smirk on his face as he reminisced over Pat's antics after they went out. With his passing I have lost someone I respected but more importantly someone I loved like a brother. That mean grumpy guy named Pat Pickering was a very important friend that helped me get through dealing with the illness then loss of my brother. Pat's shared memories of my brother Bill were an important link for me to help keep my brother alive in me over the years. So While I sit here in saddened tears over the loss of my friend I also shed tears of joy that Bill will have his best friend with him once again. Thanks for your friendship Pat. I will see you and Bill later. with love, Dale.

One of my favourite memories of Pat is at a work Christmas party and we were playing a horse steeplechase game. Pat and I were on the same team and Pat taught me how to bet on the horses and we kept losing. Last game of the night and Pat said let's bet it all "I know how this game works". Sure enough, we won it all!
Our condolences to Joanne and family. Brian and Nettie Benner

So sorry too hear of the passing of Pat. Thoughts and prayers are with you Joanne and your family. I had the pleasure of know Pat a long long time. Started n the 60s. Getting body checked into a snow bank playing road hockey.. Bok hockey in the shed. Holloween was always fun in Lakeside running away from the Pickering boys and water balloons. Then Lakeside hockey days. I can still see the look on his face the night got 10 points. Baird and Thomas had a lot too do with it. Then over the years at coffee shops or the golf course. You will be missed my friend.

To Joanne and family, Our sincere condolences to you all. Pat will certainly be missed in the Lakeside community. I don't think a chainsaw could be started without the soon presence of Pat or if you were in need of help ie amazon driver stuck at the end of the lane, was he not there to lend a hand. When the kids were younger they knew if Pat was coming around usually meant a yard stick of gum. Rest in Peace Pat

Deepest condolences from Julie, Bella & Mitzi. ❤ My favourite memory was the way Pat always called for my dogs when we were walking by shouting, "here kitty, kitty, kitty!" It really screwed them up. They didn't know if there was a kitty to chase, or if, in fact, they were actually kitties. He always made me laugh. He always stopped his truck to say 'hi', cigar in mouth. There was a soft side to this awesome soul that I was fortunate to get to know. He will be missed.
