I was very sad to hear of Ray's passing. I didn't know him well but for the 8 years I managed the Farmers' Market, Ray and Reta were there selling tickets to the Horticultural Show and smiling and joking with everyone. They always brought a smile to my face.
Reta and family, my very sincere condolences. He will be missed.

A few years ago, the St. Marys Museum was preparing an exhibit on the history of newspapers in St. Marys. A colleague and I arranged a visit to the Facey home to interview Ray about early type-setting and printing. What a great afternoon we had! Ray told us wonderful stories and showed us clippings and photographs in his scrapbook while Reta fed us muffins with her special strawberry jam. A great memory! Ray was a treasure!

To Rita, Donna, Janis, Family and friends of Raymond: My deepest condolences on the loss of Raymond: As an employee of the Journal Argus he was unmatched in his love of journalism and writing with a keen eye for detail and what made an interesting, concise editorial story. As a dedicated Horticulturist, he shared a passion for flower arranging and garden expertise with Rita. I often admired his flower arranging and choices of flowers to bring in to the United Church on Sundays. May your loving memories of time spent with Raymond comfort and sustain you during this difficult time!

A man of many letters … whether composing for the newspaper, proofreading or offering a valued opinion.
A wonderful member of the Journal-Argus team for 60 plus, plus years.
My grandfather hired Ray at 16, a recent graduate of the Beal HS print course.
He never left, working with my father, and I inherited him at 50 plus years of work, (I was 23) and stayed with me for over 25 years.
Best with Raymond was his partnership with Reta, a solid man and the most beautiful lady inside and outside.
Their garden was a joy to view walking along Jones St W … a nice detour.
Further, I always told Raymond he should patent his physicality, whereby he could polish off two heaping plates of food with room for a least two pieces of pie … and never, ever gain a pound.
Raymond never took a coffee break until under my ownership when the production staff insisted he join them, and for ever after he became a most welcome addition to our coffee table chatter.
We miss you Ray, I had to proof read this 3 times and Nancy still found an error.
Our thoughts with lovely Reta and her family.

Reta and family: We are tremendously saddened by Raymond's passing. I feel he was a mentor of sorts for me, encountering him when I was still just a kid getting a start at the J-A -- a man dedicated to the printed word as a means of bettering his community, and a man dedicated to his family. Perhaps because we shared Nissouri farm-boy roots, he seemed to appreciate my sense of humour and I certainly appreciated his. I thought he would work at the Journal forever, then when his tenure eventually did come to an end I thought he'd just live forever and we'd always be able to enjoy chats on the street or at the Farmers' Market. We'll miss you Raymond!

Reta and the Facey Family.....
What a pleasure to have known Ray, a very kind, gentle and friendly man. Ray and Reta were always a fixture on Sundays at church sitting a couple of pews in front of our family, plus always helping Reta with the flowers at the front from their beautiful gardens. May memories bring you peace and comfort in the times ahead. Thinking of you.

The passing of a legend. Condolences to Ray’s family. 35 years ago, I worked at the St. Marys Journal-Argus, as a summer student, and Ray set up the Classified Ads in the old-fashioned “lead type blocks”—one per letter! He was always willing to share his knowledge and love of the printed word. Rest In Peace Ray—I hope there’s a printing press up in heaven.
