I haven't seen Ian in years but kept in touch via phone while he was tracking Swedish relatives and another time when he took his canoe (that he made) toSilver Harbour just outside Thunder Bay to paddle the Great Lakes. He stayed at my brother Carls camp and I kept track of what he was doing by phone.
He was a lovely person and I am happy to have known him

Ian was such a talented man. He could turn his hand at anything to make beautiful paintings, wooden ducks, fish, birds and whales.
He was such an interesting man and always had a wonderful story to tell. Indeed 'His was a life well lived". He will be missed.

Ian was my friend and mentor, he truly helped me find my spirit and we had many moments of shared laughter and artful insights. One of my favorite places to talk with Ian was in his studio where we would discuss areas of art and life all the while being surrounded by his artistic endeavors; these also were imbued with his kinship to Art and Spirit. I first met Ian when my wife, Lillian and I were helping Ian and Catherine load their belongs onto a moving van as they were bound for Ontario. Our friendship was immediate and everlasting. Over the years I have learned many things from Ian, patience being the primary lesson and joy being the underlying virtue. I will miss Ian and he is often in my thoughts, his generosity in all things keeps his spirit alive in my heart.
