Our deepest sympathy to Diane, Kathryn, Darlene and Karen and their families on the passing of their husband, father and grandfather. Don was a well loved and respected large animal practitioner - one of the first mixed animal practitioners in Ontario to specialize in swine health management and production. I first met Don when we were students at the Ontario Veterinary College. Our friendship grew when I became involved at OMAFRAs Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Huron Park, where Don submitted many samples over the years. I sometimes cringed when I knew that there was an incoming telephone call from Don, as I knew he had just reviewed all the information that he could find in his textbooks and journals as well as his vast knowledge bank. Yet he still felt there was more to be learned.
He was a remarkable person and will be long remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dr. Gaylan Josephson (63) and wife Evelyn

Dear Diane, Kathryn, Karen, Darlene & family,
We are sending our deepest sympathies for the, too soon, loss of wonderful Don. For over 40 years Don or CJT80 car 5 practiced with enthusiasm and passion and passed this on to all the vet students he tutored along the way. I enjoyed listening to his Russian cassette deck lessons in the truck while doing calls. We will miss laughing with him but smile when we think of his open tailgate tribulations. He was a legend, a colleague and a dear friend, sadly missed,

So sorry to hear about Don’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time.
Although we never met in person, Don and I did a lot of business over the phone. As he was the vet and I worked for a feed mill and required vet scripts, to make feed! He was always a pleasure to talk to!

Dianne and families; Conveying sincere sympathy on the passing of Don. Our memory of respect we had for him goes back many years at the Kirkton Vet Clinic. Don and Bob Young, on a Sunday afternoon saved our dog from certain death. Our dog while playing with an Indian Rubber ball, and had the ball get stuck in the opening of his throat. The combination of the saliva and suction was made for the expertise of a "Doc Don". After an hour of suppressing the ball in the mouth of the dog, so as the dog could breathe, Don reassured us that they could proceed like this for as long as it takes. Finally, after much thought, he got a long-handled metal soup spoon, wedged it in and over the ball. Low and behold, the ball popped out and bounced on the floor. This memory will be treasured. Rest in Peace!

Diane, Karen, Darlene, Kathryn and families,
May this somehow convey the feelings that words cannot express - the sadness that is felt for you during this time of loss, and the hope that soothing memories will bring comfort to your heart. As Don was older than what I was, memories of when he was young are few except, I remember that he was very smart and had gone down East to be a Vet. Years later Dad, mom and I stopped in to see our cousin Don and his wife Diane. Don took us on a tour of all the places that he took care of animals. Next was at a Bradley reunion in Lashburn, then there was the time when I face timed to find out stuff on genealogy. Cousin Don was a walking book of knowledge. I will miss our catching up on family stuff. Rest in peace Don.

Dear Diane, Girls and your families, so very sorry to learn of Don’s death. We had no idea that he was fighting cancer so it came as quite a shock. Good memories of chatting in the middle of the road on the “back” street in Kirkton while he was out walking the dogs. He always had amazing insight into whatever the conversation happened to be. As we will keep that memory, you will have many more to hold close to your heart. Sincerest Sympathy.

Diane, Karen and Matt, Darlene and Murray, Kathryn and Tom and families,
There are no words to express the sadness with the passing of Don, but also happiness he is no longer in pain. Such a beautiful tribute you wrote for him.
Having spent many years of my life at the Atkinsons and being part of the family I have often wondered how Don could stand all these females around. He loved it. Giving us that smile and a little giggle or a shake of his head.
He loved everyone of you so much and fought so hard just to have a little more time. Thinking of you all as you journey down this new path and guaranteed he will be your guiding light.
Love,
Sonya and Geoff
