Obituary of Emmy Droog-Hooydonk
Emmy Droog-Hooydonk (nee Kok), born in Spierdijk, The Netherlands, passed away with family by her side on April 22, 2023 at the age of 81.
She spent her best years having adventures with her husband, Peter (predeceased 1983). With four kids in tow, they immigrated to Canada in 1973. Mother of Tina and Norm Malbrecht and their children Nathan and Laura, Christina and Jim, Danielle and Sean; Paula and Ian Wilcox and their children Marianne and Jon, Ben and Jess, Rebecca and Andrew; John and Krista Droog and their children Ian and Rebecca, Hayden, and Trevor; Annette and Rob Wrigley and their children Drew, Mathew, Thomas and Owen. Great-Oma of Hudson and Cohen; Maison; Graydon, Leland, Rowan and Oaklynn. Also survived by siblings in Holland, Piet, Corrie, Siem, Henk, Jan, Jos, Greet and Anneke (in Chile). Remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Kees, Wim and Gerard. Emmy and her husband Peter farmed in the Thorndale area.
Trained as a nurse, Mom was a hardworking and life-long caregiver. After Peter passed away, she met and married Tony Hooydonk (predeceased 2006) and they had many travelling adventures together. Emmy emphasized the importance of family. She enjoyed serving a cup of coffee with a Dutch treat and always had time to play a game of “Rummy Cup”, making sure everyone had a chance to put their hand in the “Droppie Pot” before they went home - Hardstikke Leuk. She was a faithful parishioner of Holy Name of Mary Parish and a member of the choir. She enjoyed babysitting the grandchildren, her social opportunities playing cards with friends and her weekly aqua fit session. She will be missed for her positive attitude and bright spirit.
Visitation at the Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home, 47 Wellington St. S. St. Marys, on Wednesday April 26th, 2023 from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at HOLY NAME OF MARY PARISH, Northeast corner of Peel St. N and Widder St. E., St. Marys, on Thursday April 27th, 2023 at 11am with Fr. Don Pumputis. Interment in St. Marys Cemetery.
