Obituary of Brian John Kelly

Brian John Kelly passed away peacefully in his home on May 22nd 2023 in his 72nd year after a long illness of chronic lung disease.  He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ellen (Calder) who left us 9 years ago at the age of 73 and is the son of the late John Vernon Kelly and the late Margaret Lillian Barclay. 
 
Loving stepfather to Rhonda (Fred) DeLong, Jim (Crystal) Sedley of St. Marys, and Jeff Sedley of St. Thomas. 
 
Beloved Papa to 8 grandchildren Meagan (Devon) Stewardson, Abbey (Christopher) Thistle, Travis (Allison), Sam, and Billie Jean Sedley, Holly (Brandon) Marriott, Payton and Colin (Audra) Sedley; and 10 great grandchildren: Ashlynn, Sophie, Madeline, Mayla, Tealya, Lachlann, Daxton, Hudson, Mya, and Kylee. 
 
He is survived by his siblings, Sharon, Edward, Gary (Ann) Kelly, and Brenda (Karl) Douglas and predeceased by his stepfather Wilfred Barclay and his sister Peggy Lou Ballantyne.  He is also survived by (Uncle)Emerson Martin and his wife (Aunt)Nora, Susan McIntosh (Maurice), Anne Streicker (Joe) in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 
 
Brian is known for his kind heart and gentle soul. He cherished his family and eagerly participated in sports, celebrations, and gatherings. He co-founded the Monday night Alcoholic Anonymous group in St. Marys which he attended for 49 years, as well as other local groups and was well respected in the community.  His work included but was not limited to sponsoring the 12 Steps of Recovery and service work at the district level; you had to look a long way before you could find a better worker.  Brian attended zoom AA meetings in both Ireland and Arizona where he made many friends, memorial meetings are underway in Canada, Mexico, and Ireland. 
 
Cremation has taken place.

Family and Friends are invited to the St. Marys Presbyterian Church, 147 Widder St. E. St. Marys on June 3, 2023 for visiting from 1 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 2 p.m. 
 
A private family interment will take place in Seaforth at a later date.
