In loving memory of David Henry Martin

January 9^th 1937 – July 5^th 2023

David "Dave" Henry Martin passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday July 5^th at the age of 86.

Born in Wombourne Staffordshire, UK Dave helped work on his family’s small holding from a young age. When Dave was 17 his family moved to Rhodesia, South Africa where he lived for ten years before returning to Staffordshire where he met his wife Isobel ‘Liz’ (nee Franks). They embarked on a career in farming in Wales, milking 70+ British Friesian cows and adding two boys to their family. After a few years Dave and Liz relocated their farming operation to Devon England where they began cash cropping.

Never afraid to take a risk, Dave and family emigrated to Canada in 1989, purchasing a 100 acre farm in Uniondale Ontario where they would cash crop and move into sheep farming. Dave quickly became a successful and well respected member of the sheep farming community. He introduced the Ile de France breed to Ontario to improve the quality of sheep flocks. His immense knowledge was often called upon.

During their years in Ontario Dave and Liz would move to and renovate properties in Meaford, Neustadt, Lakeside, Clear Creek and Princeton before retiring to the Thorndale area. Dave added his special touch to each. His work ethic was second to none.

An avid soccer fan Dave could always be found on the weekend watching his beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers from his favourite armchair.

Dave is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 54 years, Liz. Sons Nick (Jaime) and Andy (Sadie). Grandchildren Dylan, Ethan, Scotty, Devin, Lauren, Kohen, Spencer, Kaden and Annabel. Brothers Colin (Christine) and Robert (Yvonne). Nephews and nieces, Garry, Jakki, Roland, Wendy and Joanne.

Predeceased by his parents Godfrey and Emily and brother Ken (Sheila).

The family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to Dr. Josh Burley, Carol Ramsdale and all the medical staff involved in his care.

To respect Dave’s wishes a private family burial will take place at Avonbank Community Cemetery.
