Obituary of Jerry Broers
Jerry Broers
March 13 1934 – July 29 2023
Jerry Broers, in his 90th year, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 29th surrounded by family. Survived by his loving wife, Kathy, of 57 years, proud father of Jack, Teresa (Daniel), Anita (Warren), Rudy (Sacha), and loving grandfather of Matthew, Jacob, Natalie, Liev and Arie. Also survived by his sister, Trien, in Holland.
Jerry was born in 1934 on a farm in Benningbroek, North Holland, the second youngest of 11 children. Following a two-year Agricultural College exchange to Canada, which took him to farms from Selkirk, Manitoba to the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, he returned to Holland and married Kathy before immigrating permanently to Canada in 1965. Within the year, they bought a dairy farm outside of St.Marys, where he would spend the next 25 years farming. After retiring from farming, he started a second career assisting a local real estate company helping new Dutch farmers get settled in Canada. Nothing gave him more pleasure in his job than driving through the Ontario countryside showing off the fields, crops, and farms in the area.
Jerry loved being in the outdoors, gardening, entertaining guests and spending time showing his grandkids how to feed the chickens or ride the lawnmower and snowmobile. He also became an avid woodworker, and was proud that his beautiful loons, ducks and birdhouses had become treasured gifts for so many. With his wife, he often travelled back to Holland as well as to many other parts of the world. He was a proud Canadian, a loving husband, a devoted father, and cherished Opa.
Special thanks to the staff of McGarrell Place for their care and kindness.
