Obituary of Nellie Vanderpol
Passed away peacefully at Kingsway Lodge on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at the age of 90 years. Nellie was born on November 7, 1932 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
Beloved wife of the late Simon Vanderpol. Loving mother of Frances Cook (Irv), Anthony (Agnes), Paul (Betty), Joan Nichol (Stacey), Karen Nelson (Craig). Dear grandmother of Christopher (Tiffany), Pamela (Steve), Dennis (Amber), Robert, Bryan (Kaisu), Michelle (Ross), Kerry (Donnie), Brett (Madi), Rachael, Adam, Mandy (Brice), Laura (Lucas), and Nicole (Dan). Proud great-grandmother of Simon, Emily, Jacqueline, Ryerson, Elliott, Arjen, Rowben, Mila, Leonie, Lennon, Logan, Lillian, Denver, Duncan, and Noah. Nellie is also remembered by her sisters Teresa of Luxembourg and Frances of The Netherlands. She was predeceased by brothers John and Arnold.
Nellie immigrated to Canada in 1954 and married Simon on August 14th of that year. They lived for a time on the farm of Allan and Kaye Hutton where Simon worked. As their family grew, they built a house on Highway 19. Nellie was an active volunteer with the church, the Catholic Women’s League, the church choir, 4H, making meals at the Friendship Centre, and visiting at nursing homes. And there was always tea and coffee and a meal for anyone who dropped in for a visit. When Simon passed away at the age of 53, she worked hard to raise two young girls who were still with her at home. Family was the most important thing in her life.
