Obituary of Dohn William Hobbs

It is in shock and with much sadness that his family announce the death of Dohn William Hobbs of Markham. Dohn passed away suddenly on April 6 at Markham- Stouffville Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Baker), father of Paul (Milena) and Brian, grandfather of Lauren Hobbs, Brandon and Maya Hobbs and brother of Betty Jean Ball of London.He was brother-in-law to Kirby Baker (Betty) and uncle to Pamela Ball ( Art), Jennifer Prgesa (Goran), Erin McClure(Boyd) and Derek Baker(Mitisha). Great uncle to Emma and Lily Szoczi and Reid McClure. Dohn was born in 1939 to Mildred and William Hobbs and grew up on the family farm at St. Ives, attending the local school, and he met Margaret at STMDCI in 1957. He later graduated with an honours Engineering Technology diploma from The Hamilton Institute of Technology. He and Margaret married in 1960 and he began his career at Northern Electric in Montreal where he worked for a number of years before returning to Ontario to take up the position of General Manager at Extel Communications. Many Ontario homes got fresh new looks when he started his own successful home renovation business. In his spare time he used his skills to make fine furniture and to transform an old shack into a comfortable modern summer cottage for the family, on the beach at Sandbanks. He loved to travel and he and Margaret enjoyed numerous cruises and trips to many destinations around the world. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home in St. Marys. A private family graveside service will be held at Christ Anglican Church Cemetery, Lakeside. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christ Church Cemetery fund Lakeside, or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
