Obituary of Ruth Elizabeth McKay

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Elizabeth McKay, a beloved sister, and cherished member of our family. Ruth's journey in this world came to a peaceful end on October 27,2023

Ruth was born on October 28,1952 in St. Marys, the daughter of the late Murray and Florence McKay (nee Hunter). She grew up in a close-knit family and shared a special bond with her siblings, Janet McLellan (Larry) and Bill McKay (Deb).

Throughout her life, Ruth exhibited a deep love for her family, and her relationships with her nieces Laura Truax (Rob), Sarah McKay Baxter (Matt) and nephews James McLellan (Teresa), Murray Christopher McKay (Spencer) and Nick McKay. Ruth was always present in each of their lives for birthdays, holidays and special events, spoiling them as if they were her own children.  This generosity extended to her great nieces and nephews Kassandra, Trenton and Logan McLellan, Samantha, Paytien and Caelyne Truax, Fox McKay and Billy Baxter and will forever be remembered fondly.

Ruth's life was marked by her passion for bingo, alley and lawn Bowling and helping others through her time with the Optimist club.  She worked for many years at Delong in St .Marys, Reliance in Stratford, Hammond Fuels/Goco and later on in life as a bus and taxi driver in the town of St. Marys. She had an incredible spirit and a warm heart that touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Ruth's kindness and generosity were unwavering, and she always had a smile to share or story to tell.

Ruth's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and the enduring connections she forged with those around her. As we mourn her passing, we take solace in the knowledge that she is now at peace, surrounded by the love of those who have gone before her.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday November 8, 2023 at the St. Marys United Church from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  A burial ceremony will take place at the St. Marys cemetery on Thursday November 9 at 10:30 am, with a light luncheon and gathering to follow at the St. Marys United Church. All friends, family and acquaintances are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St.Marys Healthcare Foundation in Ruth's name.

Ruth will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

May she rest in eternal peace.
