Dear Blackler Family. As a highschool and university friend, I found myself in awe of Gregg’s humble athleticism. It has been a pleasure over the subsequent years to run into Gregg - perhaps at a running event or a ball game. We would ponder philosophical things like the name of our favourite tree and useless sports trivia. I’m very sorry for your loss and I’m very grateful for the life, love and laughter that we shared with Gregg.

Sending so much love and thoughts to the Blackler family. My heart breaks at this news. I met Gregg at the University of Guelph, right away during our first year, as he roomed with a friend from highschool, Kenny, and he immediately became a dear friend. He truly was the the sweetest guy who made you feel like the most important person in the room. Though we didn't stay in close contact over the years, we recently reconnected and I am so grateful we got to share some laughs, tears, hugs and togetherness. Time had made no difference to how special it was to be connected and together again. I am deeply sorry to hear this news and send my most heartfelt condolences to the family and all those that loved Gregg. ❤️

Dear Blackler Family,
I am so grateful for the beautiful memories running country blocks with Gregg and cooling down afterwards at the Kirkton Woodham Pool.
Taking pleasure in the simple and earthly wonders, working hard at whatever it is and the importance of friends and family will be how I continue to remember the friendship shared with Gregg.
All the love from our family to yours.

I was lucky enough to become friends with Greg through one of our mutual best friends Ken. Greg and Ken met as first year roommates at U of Guelph, became best friends and decided to stay roommates for their entire four years of uni. Greg and I played men's hockey together in Toronto for many years in our twenties and thirties. He was such a gifted athlete, and pure joy to hang out with on the bench and in the locker room. We also lived in the same condo building downtown for a number of years in our late twenties, and had some great years of laughter-filled pub and nightlife adventures together with a great group of friends. Greggy was one of the sweetest, kindest, most genuine, caring, and hilarious people I'll ever know. So gentle and thoughtful a soul. I absolutely loved his unique and truly hilarious sense of humour. He once hand delivered a single piece of fresh corn to my condo mailbox from St. Mary's, so I could share in the bountiful harvest. He touched my heart, like he did to so many others'. My most heartfelt love and support goes out to all of his family and friends.

Deeply saddened by our collective loss of dear Gregg.
I met Greggy in ‘97 at the University of Guelph and instantly felt at ease in his company. His post work out breakfasts were next level! He would eat raw eggs and half a cantaloupe (rockmelon), and had such a zest for life. Almost ten years later he was my roommate in Los Angeles at our mutual friend’s, Kenneth, wedding to Susan. He protected me when gangsters (true story) came banging at our door at 2 am in the morning. Greggy had a gift for making you feel like the most important person in the room. He is already missed. My thoughts and love go out to his friends and family at this time.

Gregg lived with a dear friend of ours whom lost his life earlier this year to ALS. Gregg’s life was deepened by our friend Ken and now I turn my sadness to Gregg’s passing. I knew Gregg at University of Guelph through Ken and admired his character as a compassionate, caring and loving person. A true soul connector. When Gregg spoke to you he gave you a part of himself at that time. You were all that mattered in that moment. He will be sadly missed.

Gregg was a math tutor for our daughter. She always told us how he made her feel so comfortable and much less anxious about the challenges of understanding math concepts. His quiet voice, calm manner and caring nature shone through in this important role, helping kids move past barriers in learning. We are so sadden by this loss to family, friends and the many young people he supported.
