Obituary of Mary Newell

Mary Newell passed away peacefully on Monday February 17, 2020 at Cedarcroft Place in Stratford in her 97th year. Predeceased by her husband Graham in 1990, parents Harold and Nell Kear, sister Peg (2007) brother-in-law Ern (2001), brother Bernard (2011) sister-in-law Muriel (2012) and lifelong friend Joy Relph (2006). Mary is survived by children Gerald (Annette) of Duncan B.C. Rob (Kay) of New Hamburg and Judy (Jim Riley) of St. Marys. Loving Gram to Cleo, Aaron (Abbie), Erin (Mike McKay), Jen (Justin Martin), Carolyn (Steve Brennan) and Meg. Much adored Great Grandma to Avery, Seamus, Maeve, Elouise, Adrian, Sophie, Gillian, Max and Millie.Mary was born in Cardiff, Wales on April 24th, 1923. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1957 settling in Montreal and worked as a secretary for a family physician until the move to Labrador City Nfld in 1963. Mary worked as secretary to the superintendent of the mines at the Iron Ore Company of Canada. In 1973 the move was made to Stratford where she was employed at the Stratford Police Department until retirement.Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to the ST. MARYS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 147 Widder St. E. St. Marys, on February 28, 2020 for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gwen Ament officiating. Interment in Avondale Cemetery, Stratford, at a later date.Donations may be made to St. Marys Healthcare Foundation or the London Health Sciences Foundation -Nephrology clinic or Transplant Unit-.Heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Cedarcroft for their compassionate care.
