Obituary of Derek Fadelle

Marc Derek Fadelle, age 42, life-long resident of St. Marys, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, June 2nd in St. Marys.Derek is survived by his wife Sophie (Lahaie), daughters Zoé and Skylar, parents Catherine and Terry Fadelle of Grand Bend, siblings, Kristen (Jonathan) Bragdon of Chattanooga TN, and Marten (Beth) Fadelle of Brentwood TN, mother-in-law Josiane Lahaie, and brother-in-law Joey Lahaie. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Raymond Lahaie, grandparents John and Gerritje VanderVeken (formerly of Kilworth) and Tony and Evelyne Fadelle (formerly of Strathroy).Derek was an Aviation and Flight Technology graduate of Seneca College who left a promising flying career after he met the love of his life, Sophie Lahaie. To say he was a devoted husband, father and family man would be a gross understatement. An exceptionally talented and hard worker, he excelled at whatever he set out to do, whether it involved flying, farming, business, friends or family. Derek was admired, loved and respected by all who knew him for his honesty, integrity, loyalty, work and business ethic and sincere friendship. Derek was a creative mind who loved to tinker. He was relentlessly curious, always needing to know how things worked. He enjoyed walking, cycling, swimming, watching The Jays, vacationing and camping but most of all, his girls! A natural leader, he was the catalyst for so many gatherings of friends and family. The campfire philosopher will be sorely missed.Those wishing to pay their respects to Derek may do so at the Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home, 47 Wellington St. S. St. Marys, on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 10 a.m. to noon.A private family graveside service will take place at St. Marys Cemetery.An Open House Celebration of Life Visitation will be held at the St. MARYS GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB, 769 Queen St. East, in the Hideaway Room from 6 – 9 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an Education Trust Fund for Zoé and Skylar (cheques can be made out to Sophie Fadelle), or the St. Marys Healthcare Foundation.
