Obituary of Norma Jean Paul
Peacefully, after a life well lived, Norma Jean Paul (Urquhart) in her 95th year died surrounded by the love of her family at Kingsway Lodge on July 12, 2021.
Beloved wife of Gerald Paul (2017) for 67 years and much loved and admired mother of Dr Terri Paul and her husband Dr Stephen Sims. Adored Grandma of Sydney (Dane), Alastair and Drew (Ainsley) Sims and Great Grandma of Keziah Jean Williams. Loving sister-in-law of Marion Urquhart and Shirley Paul. Much loved and sadly missed by many Paul, Urquhart, Blackler, Yule and Beatty nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Ella and William Urquhart, brothers Jack and Roger Urquhart, and sister Mary Blackler.
Norma was a role model for women who sought to combine career and family in an era when that was not common and was the inspiration for her daughter to do the same. She believed strongly in education, attending Stratford Normal School and graduating from the University of Western Ontario with her BA by attending summer school and night classes all while teaching full time. She taught public school in every setting from a one room country school to North Ward school in St Marys and Hamlet school in Stratford.
She loved to travel and had many adventures in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand with Gerald and the relatives. She was a wonderful baker, her chocolate chip cookies, carrot cake and Christmas cookies live on in her grandchildren’s memories. Even when Huntington’s disease slowed her mind and her body, she loved her time with her husband, family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside service and interment will take place at St Paul’s Anglican Cemetery in Kirkton on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 2 p.m. Those wishing to attend, please bring a lawn chair and RSVP through the Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home.
