It was such a shock, Craig was always so kind to us and we will miss him greatly, especially his words of encouragement when times were rough. He was always so positive. Over the years that we knew him we were able to develop a good friendship and he always talked about how happy and proud he was of his wife and children and for the choices they made in their education. Shelley, Lauren & Derek: You must have countless fond memories of Craig, and we hope and pray that you will draw on them, and upon what Craig would want you to do now, as you face such difficult days ahead. I frequently shopped at Foodland, mostly in the evening hours, as I always tried to make our kids' school lunches the night before, and often needed a thing or three. There was never just a "hello," with Craig. No matter how busy he was, there was always a conversation to be had, a genuine, meaningful conversation, that might have lasted five minutes or 30 minutes. He cared that much about our kids, and local sports, the community, and he proudly loved giving updates on you guys as well! Craig always had ideas of how to make things better, and while I generally like to poke holes to antagonize, just to stir a conversation, Craig always, ALWAYS had a foundation behind what he was suggesting. If he hadn't thought it out completely yet, then he kept it on the shelf until the next time it came up. He was so full of integrity, fairness, and logic, that it was hard to argue with him. I really respected and admired how much he cared about St. Marys. After every conversation, I know we both felt, with conviction, that we'd just made the world a better place! A very kind man, and a true ambassador of what we all would want people to realize about St. Marys. Respectfully and with deep sadness and sympathy, Tom, Paula, Alanna, Jaxon & Mia Valcke
