Obituary of Ronald John Sedley

Ron Sedley, of London, Ontario passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, July 14th, 2024, in his 84th year.

Ron was the oldest of 5 to Vera (Dufton) and John Sedley born in Hamilton Ontario on January 22, 1941. He and his family moved to several towns, one being St. Marys where they purchased a farm and both he and his dad would sell fruits and vegetables at a market in Stratford making a good living. He discovered his love for fishing at an early age while walking through fields to school in both St. Marys and Mitchell.

Ron raised his family of 3 in St. Marys and spent many hours in arenas with his boy's hockey, his daughter’s figure skating, taking numerous family vacations and attending car racing events. The family spent entire summers in Kincardine at “Boiler Beach” campground making lasting memories. Ron’s entire adult working career was spent at Cascades Containerboard Packaging (formerly Domtar and Hinde & Dauch) beginning in 1959 and ending in 1999. There he made lifelong friends and participated in activities such as baseball and curling and was a volunteer firefighter. Ron re-married in 1990 and he and his wife Audrey retired to the town of Haliburton in 1999 where he took up several new hobbies including wood carving, crafting twig furniture, singing with their band Northern Jam, and his favorite, volunteering for the Haliburton Community Fish Hatchery. He was a mentor to the whole team of volunteers, new or seasoned, as he had a wealth of knowledge of the hatchery operations and was a common sense, approachable person. Ron loved to fish year-round and was always happy to be on the water or the ice with colleagues from the hatchery. Ron’s legacy at the hatchery will live forever.

Ron was the beloved husband of Audrey (Norris) Sedley for 34 years. He was a devoted father to Rhonda (Fred) DeLong, Jim (Crystal) Sedley, and Jeff Sedley of St. Marys. Loving Papa to grandchildren Meagan (Devon) Stewardson, Abbey (Christopher) Thistle, Travis (Allison), Sam, and Billie Jean Sedley, Holly (Brandon) Marriott, Colin (Audra), and Payton Sedley; and 10 great grandchildren: Ashlynn, Sophie, Madeline, Mayla, Tealya, Lachlann, Daxton, Hudson, Mya, and Kylee.

Ron’s children shared their father (aka Sed) with his stepchildren Dan Bearss (Irene), Rob Bearss (Janet), and Marnie MacMeekin (Gordon), Mark Bearss (predeceased), 9 grandchildren Josh (Maggie), David (Nikki), Joanna (Jeremy), Nathen (Michelle), Corey (Andrea), Curtis, Vandie, Justine (Bill), Rebecca (Sam) and six great-grandchildren: John, Mack, Chloe, Elissa, Ameline, and Nora.

He will be missed by his siblings Marilyn (Jerry), Joanne, Roger (Christine), Linda, Cathy (Ricky) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ron was predeceased by his father John, mother Vera (Dufton), and brother-in-law Larry.

Respecting Ron’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will not be a funeral service.
